JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft has a warning call for residents, one set against the dire backdrop of a global pandemic.
Ashcroft's Communications Director Maura Browning told KXCV/KRNW that residents need to watch for sudden changes in spending habits among elder relatives, and foremost, to check in on senior loved ones via FaceTime or phone calls in the age of social distancing.
Anyone suspicious of senior financial exploitation can call the Investor Protection Hotline at 800-721-7996.
